What is RESNET

category: Residential Energy author: resnett

RESNET stands for Residential Energy Services Network.

RESNET training was developed for generating home energy rating systems and their associated energy efficiency.

Recognition of RESNET Standards:

RESNET is a national standards industry corporation, not-for-profit membership – a making body for building energy efficiency rating systems, whose standards are recognized by the following organizations in the US:

a)      Federal tax credits department

b)      EPA Energy Star homes

c)       US Department of Energy

d)      US Finance Department – in certifying White Tags

e)      US Mortgage Industry – for capitalizing energy efficiency in Mortgages

Results of the Rating:

A relative energy index called HERS is placed for implementation to measure the quality of the energy ratings and thus efficiency.

HERS index of 100 represents the energy use of the “American Standard Building” and an HERS index of 0 (zero) indicates that the building uses no net purchased energy – or a Zero Energy Rated Building.

Calculation of HERS Index:

1)      Tests developed in collaboration by US National Laboratories and RESNET – provide software accreditation – which is achieved by passing a series of software verification tests

2)      Automated software is used to compare the standard building using the input from the proposed building

3)      The modelling parameters and it’s set configurations for the standard building are specified as a “ Standard set rule” to measure the results generated from the automated software

4)      Building simulation software tools and the results obtained from 1 through 3 are analysed and then HERS index is generated in a scale usually ranging between 0 to 100
